Submitting a Registration Application: A separate application and the work description must be submitted to the Registrar for copyright registration. An applicant must log in to the official website in order to submit an application. For the same-
- A candidate must type in a valid User ID and password.
- The applicant must choose New User Registration if they haven't already registered.
After opening, the login page, press the “Click for Copyright Registration online ” button. An applicant shall fill out the online “Copyright Registration Form” along with all the relevant documentation. The Registrar will assign the applicant a dairy number once the application has been submitted.
The Registrar's Inspection: After the application has been filed. After the applicant receives their dairy number, there is a minimum 30-day waiting period during which the copyright examiner analyses their application.
Getting the Certificate of Registration: The Registrar may request additional information in this phase that is necessary for copyright registration. The Registrar will enter the specifics of the relevant copyright work into the Register of Copyrights and issue a "Certificate of registration" for Copyright after he is totally satisfied with the copyright declaration made by an applicant.
Note: Once the applicant receives the Extracts of the Register of Copyrights (ROC) from the Registrar, the registration process for copyright for literary works is complete.
How long is the copyright for literary work in effect?
For published works, the copyright is in effect for the artist's lifetime plus an additional 70 years.
For unpublished works, the copyright is valid for 70 years after the artist's death or until the work is first published.
Note: As of January 1, 2019, both published and unpublished works have the same copyrighted art duration.
