BIS ISI Certificate Maintain Quality Control in India

The government of India has been on a mission to strive for a robust quality ecosystem in India, as a hallmark of the accent on superior and safety-compliant products that take the economy to higher growth and development.

QCO is a term used for Quality Control orders. It was rapidly introduced by (the DPIIT) Department for the promotion of Industry and internal Trade for critical products such as electrical accessories, Glassware, Cooper products, and others.

BIS license consultant has set the quality standards for Indian products and it is strengthening the foundation without compromising on the range of goods being made available to the Indian consumer. QCOs purposeful intention of restricting the circulation of sub-standard products will be a crucial driver for establishing India as a manufacturing powerhouse with the best quality products.

According to Section 17 and sub-section 3 of Section 25 of the Bureau of Indian Standards Act, 2016, and in the supersession of the steel and steel products quality control order (QCOS), it was published on December 22, 2020. The central government thinks that it is essential to do this for the public interest after consulting with the BIS (Bureau of Indian Standards).

BIS ISI maintains a Quality control order

  1. BIS grants certification only to manufacturing units and not to buyers, importers, retailers, wholesalers, and distributors. However, buyers, wholesalers, retailers, and distributors have to guarantee that the products covered under QCOs are purchased only from manufacturing units holding a valid BIS licence.
  2. BIS allows certification to foreign manufacturers as well under the FMCS (Foreign Manufacturers Certification Scheme) details, including the application process with the forms, are available here.
  3. DPIIT focuses on developing a robust quality ecosystem for products that are under the purview of providing good quality products and promoting exports of Indian products. It has led to more than 60 new QCos covering around 300 product standards, which have not only guaranteed that reliable products are available to consumers but also improved quality standards for manufacturers through enhancing the brand and quality of “ Made in India” products.
  4. Manufacturing, storing, and selling non-BIS-certified products is forbidden under the QCO's notification. Violations of the BIS Act can result in up to two years in prison or a fine of at least Rs 2 lakh for the first offense. It is up to Rs 5 lakh for the second and subsequent offenses.
  5. The manufacturer unit that makes several different types of footwear products often needs clarification or help about whether you require one licence for the unit or separate licences for each of the products. According to BIS standards, separate licences for each product are required. However, multiple variations of products that meet the same Indian standard can be covered by the same license. For more information regarding product manuals related to specific products, check the BIS Official Website
  6. On 4th August 2022, the BIS (Bureau of Indian Standards) committed to the quality of services and products. The Indian standards formulated by BIS form the basis for product certification schemes and provide them with third-party assurance of the quality of products for consumers. BIS implements QCOs issued by the government that guarantee that notified products conform to the requirements of the relevant Indian standards.
  7. To assist the Central Government in issuing QCOs, BIS meets with line ministries or departments on a regular basis, providing technical input on Indian standards and relevant conformity assessment schemes, and getting involved in stakeholder consultation meetings.
